The 2019 James White Award competition is currently closed to entries.
We will reopen the competition in early 2020.
The closing date for this year’s competition was Friday 28, June at midnight (British Summer Time). It is our intention to announce the winner in August.
Before you enter, please take note of the following:
Your story must be between 2000 and 6000 words long – we do not accept flash fiction or novel length works (or extracts). Your work must not feature settings or characters from copyrighted works (TV programmes, films or books by other writers) and must not have been previously published or be under consideration for publication elsewhere.
The James White Award is judged anonymously. You must remove your name and address from your manuscript and format it according to the rules.
You must read and agree to abide by the rules of the competition, failure to comply with the rules may result in disqualification. We also encourage you to take note of our advice for writers.
Online entries only. We will not enter into correspondence and cannot offer feedback on stories submitted.
The closing date for this year’s competition is Friday 29 June, 2019 at midnight (BST).
This year the winning story will receive £200 and will be published in a future issue of the UK’s leading science fiction magazine, Interzone.
